“Eph 2:8-Eph 2:9 NASB For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
This was something I learned about in my teenage years. Justification by faith alone. Faith, however, without works is dead. I still believe firmly that if it isn’t for God’s Grace & His Son’s sacrifice on the cross, I would not be ‘saved’ as it were. He cleanses me.
However…I have now come to realize that Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox Christian, Atheist or Agnostic……we all have to face judgement. God’s Judgement. This is written all over the Old & New Testaments. This is the link to a good article. Read it.
Do not get me wrong. It’s important to believe in Jesus. His death & resurrection is the basis of my faith, my hope & trust in God. God’s judgement is more central than I thought it was. Simply repeating or saying the ‘Sinner’s prayer’ is not going to get me very far.
I find it increasingly difficult to reconcile ‘Salvation’ in the standard Prostetant doctrine. There are many ‘Christians’ who are really poor examples of our faith, and there are many more very good ‘non-Christians’ who are basically very good people. Will good people who have not had as much opportunity as myself to know Jesus not have eternal life? I know the answer lies with God. Perhaps Romans 2: 6-11 would give us a clue.
